My wife got her approval documents yesterday. Effective H1 date on I-94 starts from Oct 2007. Anyone knows how soon can she file for SSN or does she have to wait till Oct 1st.

Thanks Hewa, Lasanthe for your clarification.
Lasanthe, you had been a great, informative and important member at IV, especially ROW related threads.
I am sure today is the last day will be browsing IV.org to read "congratulation" messages! And going to delete iv.org from your Favourites
:D
July 31st will probably be your RD. Unless they mess it up. I read somewhere that it got messed up for someone.
I mailed my I-485 to NSC, CSC issued the receipts, and sent me a transfer notice (transferred to TSC). It is now pending at TSC. But the RD is the date NSC received my package.

GC is an extension of H1B issued for 10 years and gives freedom to change the employer. Citizenship is different and do not compare GC with Citizenship.
That's not correct. There is big difference between h1B annd GC and it is not for 10 years. it is for ever unless you don't fulfill some conditions.

Sure. But it doesn't change a thing. Would've said the same thing in 08. By throwing a bone (EAD card) USCIS have played with EB3 indians and have very effectively throttled the green cards.
The situation is the same. In my case and of course in most of others too, what he/she said is correct. Waiting for Eb3 to cross 2001 has become a difficult thing. If I started an EB2 app rather than hoping positively, I would have finished my wait for GC.
Ever since retrogression started the dates have not crossed 2001. 245i or not, the backlog is a fact. Sad part, when there is action items from IV, trying to talk to my state members, I have realized and been told that IV does not cater to EB3 anymore. It is disheartening how much ever I try to explain, occasional members look at IV threads like EB2-EB3 predictions and say there is no hope for EB3 and also IV has no answer to it.
I tried my part...too bad I was not able to participate in the IV advocacy day due to family emergency. anyway, let us hope IV's persistence yields us the results. My heart goes for a lot of EB3s who may automatically qualify for EB2 just due to their experience.
Best of luck to all.

I renewed my passport from houston in september 2009 by mail. I had a great experience. Managed to get the passport within a week without the tatkal scheme.
In your case you probably will have to send a certified copy of your H1b approval notice (with attached new I-94) as well as the old I-94, utility bills etc.
I went to my bank to notarize my documents. There was a problem in that the bank officer said he cannot attest true copies and can only be a witness to an affidavit. So I wrote "I attest this to be a true copy" and signed it myself. The notary then signed it saying, "Signed in my presence". I submitted that and it seems to have done the trick.
Hope that helps.

I agree with the above and actually in someways this bulletin was perfect ..instead of giving false hopes it has woken up those who were dreaming (including me) that something good will happen in july bulletin. so once again my message --IV needs to announce a new campaign
---------------
IV core needs to come up with new campaign too. if not now, then say 3 months from now. it definitely needs to come up with something ..either to highlight our problems / contributions or for something like recapture.
without meaningful campaigns, increasing memberships or donations is an illusion !!!

Until H1B and GC are based on individual's credentials, there will be no protection on foreign workers, American workers and salary stability.

I have a 11 pages PERM, where can I see in which category was certified. I don`t find any information. Please advice.
I think it is on Page 2 (Section H: Job opportunity information) --> Item # 4 = Education: minimum level required. If it is checked as "Masters" or "PHD" it is EB2, if not it is EB3.
This is my interpretation. It took my 3 months to get my job profile changed from Masters preffered to Masters Required. Hope this is what it is. I have been assured by my lawer it is EB2

What i am trying to say here is firstly reaching congressman should not be on the first day itself which some of the folks are doing, atleast wait for a a couple of weeks. and then regarding opening SR i would say atleast wait for around a week or 10 days at the minimum if you are scared of dates moving back. And yes i am not pointing fingers at any individual so don't take it personally "gc_on_demand"
I am questioning the need to reach Congressman. Let USCIS do their job first.

My question is, based on my old H1, do I need to go out of the country?
Second question is, In my old passport there are 2 valid US visas, 10 Yr B1 and 3 yr H1. How do I get them on to new passport?
1. No you need not go out of USA, because new I94 is valid until 11/2009. However, you need to get visa stamped within one year of expiry of first one, if you want to travel frequently. I have heard that if it is more than one year, entire precess of verification starts again. In automated appointments, consulates provides option for within one year.
2. Once H1B is used, subsequently B1/B2 cann't be used. When you go to any consulates, they will cancel it. The Visa of old passport, even if expired, can be used for AVR (e.g going to Canada and coming back within a month) along with new I94.

PD - Dec 2004
RD - Aug 2007
ND - Oct 2007
Never had any RFE. Centre - Texas.
I am expecting 2004 EB will be cleared this month. All the 2004 guys just relax and be easy ( particularly SOP ). Honestly i didnt care much before, there are million things better than gc in life. Having said that, its good to have purely for travelling purposes.
If anyone whose PD is earlier than mine, i truly apologize. Its not me, its USCIS. I have seen PDs same as mine getting approved 2 yr ago.
Stay tight and believe in yourself NOT USCIS.
Nirvana, Congrats, Did your case go thru TSC-EAC-TSC transfer? When is the exact ND?
